چکیده
Nacrtak Opening-up of forests enables the application of rational forestry, which means more productivity and suitability for sustainable use. Therefore, forest roads are one of the most important tools needed. This study investigates tree damage caused by excavated materials during forest road construction in a karst region. Bending, crushing andwoundingwere defined as tree damage because of excavated materials during forest road construction. Besides, forest road construction techniques, and productivity by using hydraulic excavator were investigated in forested lands in Antalya region in Turkey. The number of damaged trees regarding various gradient classes was also determined in the study area. The results indicated that during the forest road construction 12% and 27% of trees were wounded upon 20–45% and 46–90% ground slopes respectively. A maximum length of the fill slope for excavator was found to be 17 m on 80% slope gradient. The cost of excavator was calculated as 17.6 /m. The productivity of the excavator was calculated as 105.8 m3/hr.

Analysis of Tree Damage Caused by Rockfall at Forest Road Construction Works
Nacrtak Forest roads provide access for people to study, enjoy or contemplate natural ecosystems. Therefore, roads are one of the most important tools needed in forestry. Forest roads are built by excavation of soil and rock. Rockfall occurs during construction works, caused by excavated rock pieces on embankment slopes and by blasting of block rock masses. This study analyzes rockfall damage t...

Forests are an important economic source for human and have key role in nutrient cycle, hydrology and ecosystem performance, any interference in this vital ecosystem causes to damage to forests. Mechanical logging and road construction in forest areas have led to much soil compaction. Soil physical and chemical properties were studied in parts of road and non-road in the Darabkola forest of Ira...

متن کاملInvestigation of forest road surface sediment estimation using two experimental models of SEDMODL and WARSEM
Extended abstract 1- Introduction A bare surface on forest roads is created due to road construction. This surface is the main source of erosion and sediment yield to streams in forest areas. The increase of sediment in streams causes dramatic damage to the quality of water ecosystems and the life of aquatic organisms. Therefore, road engineers should pay attention not only to the cost of roa...
متن کاملForest Road Design in Stable Location to Minimize Erosion (Case Study: Vaston District)
Soil erosion is of the most important environmental challenges and factors of forest damage, which is, occur because of the land use change, road construction and lack of vegetation cover. Forest soil is naturally penetrable but forest roads are not. This issue causes the flows runoff on road surface and washes soil particles. Thus, forest roads must be planned and constructed accurately. So, t...
